PhD Research
Currently, Thijs Jan is associated with the Institute of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology at Leiden University as PhD researcher. His project is titled Globalisation of Waldorf Education: An Ethnographic Case Study from the Philippines. Waldorf education is a globalising independent school movement, providing a conscious alternative to mainstream conceptions of education. Recent growth in Asia is remarkable. This raises questions about how educational philosophies, discourses, and practices spread around the globe and how they are transformed and adapted locally. This research seeks insights on this matter via an ethnographic case study in Iloilo, the Philippines.
