Short Resume
Sylvia van Beugen obtained both a Master in Psychology and Mental Health and a Research Master in Medical Psychology, at Tilburg University. From 2010-2014, she has worked as a PhD candidate at the department of Medical Psychology of the Radboud university medical center, where she laid the groundwork for her PhD thesis entitled “Psychodermatology 2.0: Towards improved assessment and effective internet-based interventions”. From 2014 onwards, she has worked as a researcher and lecturer at the unit Health, Medical and Neuropsychology of Leiden University. In 2018, she obtained a position as associate professor at the unit Health, Medical and Neuropsychology.
Research
Sylvia van Beugen’s research focuses on two main domains: 1) fundamental research on influencing factors in physical and psychological functioning in chronic health conditions, with a specific focus on stigmatization, nocebo effects, and implicit processes; and 2) translational research on the development and (cost)effectiveness of internet-based and serious gaming interventions for patients with chronic health conditions and a psychological risk profile.
