Research
- Effectively intervening in traumatized parents and children after structural domestic violence (2019-present). In this study, we investigate the effectiveness of trauma- and attachment-based interventions for mothers and young children who are victims of severe domestic violence. This study takes place at several domestic violence shelters throughout the Netherlands and is conducted by a multidisciplinary team, involving researchers from Leiden University and VU University and clinical psychologists.
- Parenting under stress: Does stress lead to less positive parenting through altered empathy? (2020-present). This project concerns a lab study in which the influence of stress on caregiving behavior is investigated.
- Decision-making in child welfare and child protection (2021-present). With this study, it is investigated which factors influence decision-making in child welfare and child protection.
- Pilot Jong en Kansrijk! (2021-present). This pilot study concerns a small-scaled study in which the implementation of the NIKA-protocol (screening, assessment, and treatment of disrupted attachment) in families who enter child protection services is evaluated.
- In addition, in collaboration with colleagues from the Anna Freud Centre (London) and Centrum Hecht (Leiden), Sabine is setting up a study to evaluate a form of mentalization based therapy (MBT) for families who are potentially facing out-of-home placement of their child(ren).
