Laurens Heling is a PhD candidate at the Medical Systems Biophysics and Bioengineering (MSBB) group supervised by Dr. Alireza Mashaghi Tabari. Laurens’ background is in single molecule biochemistry, having completed a Research MSc at the University of Kent (Canterbury, England), where he developed an assay to resolve the ATPase activity of single myosin within the myofibrillar matrix using STORM imaging. This work contributes towards understanding the molecular basis of muscle contraction and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. His PhD projects focusses on protein folding dynamics and protein-DNA interactions of nuclear receptors in health and disease, using single molecule and bulk experimental approaches as well as in silico molecular dynamics simulations.
