Tumour research
Her aim is to crosslink patient care (diagnostic pathology of bone and soft tissue tumours) with basic research (elucidating the molecular events underlying sarcoma development and progression) in order to establish improved diagnosis, prognosis and treatment for patients with bone and soft tissue tumours.
Academic career
Judith Bovée obtained her Medical Degree in 1997, after which she started with her PhD project under supervision of Prof. P.C.W. Hogendoorn. In 2000 she graduated cum laude on the thesis 'A molecular genetic characterisation of cartilaginous tumors'. After her residency in pathology at the LUMC she was registered as a pathologist in 2003. In 2013 she was promoted full professor at the same department. The title of her inaugural lecture was: “Molecules, Mechanisms, Personalized therapy”. She is also involved in molecular diagnostics and was registered as a clinical scientist in pathology in 2013.
Judith Bovée is, amongst others, a consultant pathologist for the EORTC and the Netherlands Committee on Bone Tumours, she is a board member of various medical advisory boards of patient’s organisations (e.g. sarcoma.nl), as well as scientific organizations (e.g. Connective Tissue Oncology Society) and she is an editorial board member of several scientific journals (e.g. Laboratory Investigation). She participates in various international networks (e.g. EuroSARC) and contributed to the WHO classification for bone tumours. She is an author of >190 scientific publications, and wrote >30 book chapters. She is frequently invited for international congresses.
