Professional experience
Prof. dr. ir. Jeroen Guinée (M) is a Professor of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) at the Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML) at Leiden University in The Netherlands. He obtained his MSc in Environmental Sciences at Wageningen University and successfully defended his PhD in LCA in 1995 at Leiden University. His doctoral research focused on the development of an environmental LCA method and contributed significantly to the first LCA Guide in 1992. In 2002, he served as the project leader and editor for a seminal publication in the field of LCA, the "Handbook on Life Cycle Assessment: Operational Guide to the ISO Standards" which stands as one of the most respected works in this domain. He has (co-)authored over 100 scientific papers and contributed to various books. He imparts his extensive knowledge by teaching a course on LCA to second-year master's students. Additionally, he dedicates his time to supervising master and PhD students as well as Postdocs. Throughout his academic career, he has actively participated in numerous large EU-funded research consortia. In recent years, his research has been devoted to ex-ante LCA and Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD), aimed at supporting the development of more sustainable and innovative products and technologies.
