Jasper Maas is appointed as lecturer at the Institute of Education and Child Studies at Leiden University. He obtained his PhD with a dissertation on the relationship between social support and teachers' well-being. Dissertation: 'Explanatory pathways of the association between receiving social support and teachers' well-being' (2023). Promotor: Prof. Dr. Urte Scholz, University of Zurich. He holds a BSc and MSc in Sociology and Teacher of Social Studies (Vrije Universiteit) and has worked as a teacher in secondary education.
Research
Primary and secondary school teachers have been facing high workloads. This is one of the causes of relatively high drop-out rates and teacher shortages. Jasper Maas' research focuses on factors that can influence teachers' motivation, stress and well-being. Important research questions are how teachers can benefit from support from school leaders and colleagues and how social support in schools can be strengthened.
Education
Jasper teaches in the Bachelor Pedagogische Wetenschappen and the Master Education and Child Studies. The focus of his teaching is on research skills such as Onderzoekspracticum, Practice of Empirical Research, Scientific writing and supervision of master's theses.
