Jaap-Willem is Data Steward for the Institute of Child and Education Studies and the Institute of Psychology at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.

Role within the university

After his Master Clinical Neuropsychology at Leiden University, Jaap-Willem started working for Leiden University in July 2016 at the Health, Medical and Neuropsychology unit as Datamanager and Communication Staff Member (till March 2023) and as personal assistant of prof. Andrea Evers (till April 2020).

As of March 2022, Jaap-Willem started to work as Data Steward for Behavioural Sciences (Institute of Child and Education Studies and the Institute of Psychology). Together with colleague Willemijn Plomp he is responsible for the Research Data Management training for new PhD candidates. Next to this he gives advice and reviews Data Management Plans (DMP) and Publication Packages (for example to ensure the privacy of participants) and colleagues can contact him for advice on all kinds of research data management related questions (e.g. questions about how to implement the FAIR guidelines, how to build a Pseudonymised/anonymised Publication Package, how to write a good DMP). He works closely together with the scientifc directors from both institutes, the Policy Officer of Psychology, the Datamanager of Education and Child Studies and the Privacy Officer of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences to maximise the support.

Jaap-Willem is part of the Open Science Community Leiden because he thinks that sharing data is a key aspect of conducting research. He chose to become a Data Steward because research data management in the current scientific world - especially with an eye on Open Science and sharing in general - is becoming more and more important. As part of his job, he is a curator for DataverseNL and uploads Publication Packages for his colleagues.
