Independent lecturer, management consultant and thesis supervisor in the field of crisis management, high-reliability and organizational design. Jaap Reijling started a military career with the Royal Air Force in 1972 and left the organisation with functional age discharge in 2011.  In the first half of his military career he gained a lot of practical experience in leadership in a technologically complex environment; in particular fighter and helicopter maintenance. In the second half, he focused primarily on managerial issues in the constantly changing Defense organization. Inspired by that administrative experience, he conducted a PhD study from 2011 to 2015 on the administrative renewal of the organisation from 2003 to 2014. The study offers a unique insight into the conflicting discourses in the organisation, particularly between the civilian upper layer and the military professional lower layer. In doing so, the study also offers great insight into the functioning of central government in general, especially executive organizations. In his classes, studies and consultancy practice, he focuses particularly on understanding and restoring the necessary balance between the structure and culture of the organization. In doing so, he has a strong focus on executive practice.
