Han began her PhD in Industrial Ecology in November 2023, focusing on performance-oriented urban planning. Her research aims to bridge the gap between energy-efficient urban development and the design process.
Professional experience
Han Yu received her Master's degree in Architecture from the College of Architecture and Urban Planning at Tongji University in 2023. Beyond architecture design, she has a strong interest in performance simulations at broader levels. Her research also focuses on optimization through data analysis and parametric modeling, aiming to transform urban spaces into highly energy-efficient, sustainable environments in response to climate change challenges. She joined the Institute of Environmental Science (CML) at Leiden University in November 2023 to pursue her doctoral degree.
Research topic
Han's doctoral project starts from investigating the relationships between urban morphology and residential energy consumption, towards to achieve positive-energy goals and enhance microclimate comfort in built environments across different scales. Her research topic, ‘The Impact of Urban Morphology Indicators on Building Energy Consumption: The Relationship, Mechanism and Redevelopment’. After exploring the intricate relationship via available data and revealing the underlying mechanisms, the potential impacts combined with materials and transportation on carbon emissions from an urban morphology perspective will come afterwards.
