Francesco Ragazzi is Associate Professor in International Relations at the Institute of Political Science.
Francesco Ragazzi is Associate Professor in International Relations. He obtained his PhD in political science from Sciences Po (Paris) and Northwestern University (Chicago). He also holds a Masters in Film from the Netherlands Film Academy (Amsterdam).
Francesco is currently interested in the relation between images, power and social practices, with a focus on security. His current research, supported by the ERC Consolidator Grant Security Vision, focuses on artificial intelligence and the place of algorithmic socio-technical systems in the field of security, with a focus on the treatment of images (biometric identification, emotion recognition, social media content moderation). His past themes of research include diaspora politics, radicalisation and counter-radicalisation.
From a methodological perspective, Francesco is interested in developping qualitative, quantitative and multimodal research methods (for example through visual ethonography, creative coding, etc.) in interpretive research designs in international politics. He develops these activites as a co-director of the interdiscipinary center ReCNTR.
