Droovi started as a PhD candidate at the Industrial Ecology department of CML in May 2023. He is working for the (Circular Collaboration) CirCol NWO Project. His research involves using Industrial Ecology concepts to expand Value creation within the circular and emission free housing transition in the Netherlands.
Professional experience
Droovi has a Bachelor’s degree in Global Sustainability Science, with a specialisation in Energy & Resources, from Utrecht University. He graduated from the Master Energy Science from Utrecht University in October 2022. During his Master consultancy project, he contributed to assessing the environmental impact of packaging of the Dutch Colon Cancer Screening programme (Bevolkingsonderzoek Darmkanker). During his Master internship, he consulted the start-up Caffe Inc on the environmental footprint of their spent coffee ground processing system and advised them on how to reduce their CO2 and Energy footprint. For his Master Thesis, he investigated the potential of a decentralised pyrolysis-based plastic waste management system for managing campus plastic waste at the Utrecht Science Park, primarily using MFA, LCA and energy analysis methods.
Research topic
Droovi is part of Work Package 4 of the CirCol project which is titled “Accrual of broader values”. He will be using namely Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment and Material Flow Analysis, to investigate the mismatch between financial value and the broader socioeconomic and environmental benefits of different circular and emission free renovation options. Using these methods to transparently show the long-term benefits of considering environmental and socioeconomic value will enable relevant actors to develop more circular practices and enable better collaboration between actors in the construction industry.
