Bryan Verheul has been a PhD Fellow at the Institute of Private Law since 1 July 2024.

Bryan Verheul graduated with a bachelor's degree in Law from the University of Amsterdam. During his bachelor's studies, he spent a semester at Georgetown Law School (Washington D.C.). Bryan graduated in both Dutch Private Law and European Private Law (cum laude) from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam respectively. Prior to his appointment as a PhD Fellow, Bryan lectured in civil law at Leiden University. Over the years, he has gained additional experience working within the judiciary and at commercial law firms.
Bryan participated in The Hague Academy of International Law's 2023 summer course on private international law and is a member of The European Association of Private International Law's Young Research Network.
Bryan is conducting research into the formal scope of the Brussels I-bis Regulation (Reg. 1215/2012) in relation to third countries (non-EU Member States).
