Jan Zaanen Group - Quantum Matter Theory
The focus of our theoretical physics research is the nature of macroscopic matter that is in one or the other way still in the grip of quantum physics.
Established examples are electron systems realized in special solids like the high Tc superconductors and heavy fermion systems, but in principle our interests extend also to cold atoms and fundamental matter like the quark-gluon plasma.
At present a major focus is on the AdS/CFT correspondence of string theory, that makes possible the use of fanciful general relativity constructions to address the nature of quantum matter.
