Science based business
The mission of science based business (SBB) connects the domains of science, business, and policy. Scientific research we focus on at Leiden in areas such as artificial intelligence promises to reshape our societies for the better. Translating science into positive societal impact however requires new types of expertise and skills. Research at SBB focuses on the social interfaces of science with stakeholders across the domains of business, technology, and policy as well as on novel organizational and operational models necessary to deliver this positive societal impact.
Science, management and innovation
The Science, Management and Innovation (SMI) group examines organisational dynamics governing the management of complex R&D projects and technology commercialisation. Research of the SMI group examines dynamics governing the organisation of science-based ventures, the management of university-industry collaborations, and the interplay between researchers and their organisational, policy environment in shaping work. The SMI group employs both qualitative research methods and approaches based on the use of big data analytics and advanced statistical and data mining methods.
Technology and operation management
The Technology and Operation Management (TOM) group focuses on the operational challenges of adopting new cutting-edge technologies in areas such as artificial intelligence, precision medicine, and high-tech instrumentation. In this context research of the TOM group contributes to scholarly debates in operations management, economic modelling, data analytics, software development, quantitative logistics, and healthcare operations management.
