Research project
The development of children in foster care

Background
Studies indicate that many children in foster care experience internalizing or externalizing problem behaviour. Given the experiences children in foster care had to go through, this is hardly surprising. What is surprising is that many children in foster care will not show improvement after admission in their foster families; some children even develop in an unfavourable manner after admission in their foster families.
The goal of this study is to develop a better understanding of why some children develop favourably in foster families whereas other children seem to develop unfavourably. This project started 2012; together with Anouk Goemans, Peter van den Bergh and Paul Vedder.
