State & Society network
The State & Society network critically interrogates the assumption that state and society are a priori conceptual and empirical objects.
In doing so, it combines insights from the humanities and the social sciences. A particular focal point of the network is the nature and role of ‘imperial’ state structures, both during their existence and in the form of their real or imagined legacy in the nation-state. The network’s twin aims are to raise the level of theoretical reflection in the research practices of its members, and to contribute to theory on the basis of their empirical research.
