The structures, processes, and systems of the government often do not align with the expectations, capacities, and behaviours of people. There are numerous scientific and societal knowledge needs at the intersection of psychology and public administration that call for behavioural insights for governance and policy. The aim of this application is to strengthen our interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary capacity to generate behavioural insights for a government that works better for people.

Strengthening interdisciplinarity on this theme in research and (executive) education can contribute to generating, sharing, and applying the behavioural insights needed to improve government functioning and its interaction with citizens. The application particularly focuses on enhancing interdisciplinary collaboration between academic staff from Psychology and Public Administration.

The application also aims to strengthen transdisciplinarity in the fields of psychology and public administration. Further connections between scientists from both fields and practitioners help to formulate shared knowledge questions, utilise practical knowledge in research, and better disseminate behavioural insights through (executive) education.

The Kiem grant application will be used to organise a series of matching meetings. These matching meetings have a cumulative character to identify and develop joint knowledge questions towards inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration in research and (executive) education. To increase student visibility and participation, the Kiem application will be used to establish a thesis award for Behavioural Insights for Governance and Policy.
