Vincent Delhomme delivered a keynote speech on the topic of food affordability at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on 22 January 2025. The event focused on achieving a balanced food system that is sustainable, healthy and affordable.
Food security is a serious issue in the European Union. A growing segment of the population cannot afford the cost of a quality meal every day. Vincent Delhomme stressed in his speech, however, that this should not be used as an excuse to delay the necessary transition to a sustainable food system. A plant-based diet is not necessarily more expensive than the current benchmark diet. Tools exist to make healthy and sustainable diets comparatively more affordable.
The event organised by the Kangaroo Group included, among other speakers, Vytenis Andriukaitis, MEP and former EU Commissioner for Health, and Michael Gahler MEP.
