Europe Hub hosts first edition of Stockholm Explorative Talks in the Netherlands
Security, power, transition, fracture... and fear. What do these concepts mean in the context of the ongoing situation in Europe?
On 13 November, Leiden University's Europe Hub, hosted the first edition of the Stockholm Explorative Talks outside of Sweden, in collaboration with the Stockholm Academic Forum, the Embassy of Sweden in The Netherlands and the European Commission Representation in the Netherlands. The event was held at the Huis van Europa in The Hague.
The Stockholm Explorative Talks follows an original format. Six scientists from various disciplines (Mark Basin and Ebba Theorell from Sweden, as well as Wilco van Dijk, Sarah Giest, Gianclaudio Malgieri and Nienke de Graeff from Leiden University) took to the stage for an unrehearsed conversation on this year's theme: 'Crossroards – What we meet, what we dream and what we fear'. They discussed this topic from the perspective of their own academic disciplines, offering the audience a spontaneous, comprehensive vision on how to tackle the short-term challenges that Europe is facing.
The conversation was followed by a panel discussion on political and institutional perspectives on the EU’s future. The panel was comprised of Klasja van de Ridder (Head of Representation at the European Commission in the Netherlands), Johannes Oljelund (Ambassador of Sweden to The Netherlands) and René Cuperus (Senior Fellow at the Clingendael Institute) and was moderated by Vincent Delhomme (Assistant Professor at Leiden University and Europe Hub Coordinator).
