Helen Pluut in the media about social safety
Helen Pluut appears in interviews with both the Leidsch Dagblad and Intermediair on the topic of social safety at work and unacceptable behaviour.
Helen Pluut was interviewed by both the Leidsch Dagblad and Intermediair on the topic of social safety and unacceptable behaviour. The reason was the recently discredited professor of astronomy at Leiden University and Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, the presenter of Dutch talk show De Wereld Draait Door. 'It's a situation that is familiar to many people' says Helen Pluut, Associate Professor at the Department of Business Studies.
In the interviews, she discusses informal learning processes that occur as part of an organisation's culture. People might start to think that certain undesirable behaviour - such as intimidation and bullying - is part of that culture. But what do you do if you experience such a negative atmosphere at work? Or if your own supervisor is actually the problem?
In the articles, Helen Pluut warns against the metaphor of competitive sports that is widely used, also in academia. Together with her colleagues from the Young Academy Leiden she previously wrote a blog on this topic.
