Matthias Haentjens and the second conference on bank resolution
On 3 February 2021, Prof. Matthias Haentjens spoke at the second conference on bank resolution, jointly organised by the European Banking Institute (EBI) and the Single Resolution Board (SRB).
The conference was devoted to bank resolution and addressed such topics as harmonisation of EU bank liquidation laws, the post-Brexit world and the problem non-performing loans. Prof. Haentjens discussed the Home-host balance in cross-border resolution, and covered some of the most pertinent issues in the area of bank resolution, including discrepancies between national resolution laws, the lack of automatic recognition of resolution actions outside the EU, and exceptions to recognition based on financial stability and fiscal consequences. He suggested potential solutions and warned that while systemically important banks pose the biggest stability threats, the global recognition of resolution remains least regulated.
