Jaap de Hoop Scheffer to open 2018-2019 Academic Year
During the official opening of the 2018-2019 Academic Year on Monday 3 September, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer will talk about Europe and the future of our continent in a turbulent and unpredictable world. He will do this in the form of a lecture and a discussion with Imane Maghrani, an alumna of World Politics and Global Justice at our university.
In the Pieterskerk the academic year will be opened, true to tradition, by the procession of students, professors and administrators, after which there will be several speeches and musical performances.
The future of Europe
Jaap de Hoop Scheffer will first give a talk on how he views the future of Europe. He will then enter into discussion with Imane Maghrani, an ambitious woman who is Education Executive at the Prince’s Trust in London. How does she (the younger generation) regard the future of our continent, compared with De Hoop Scheffer?
De Hoop Scheffer is professor of International Relations and Diplomatic Practice (Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs, Leiden University). Imane Maghrani is an alumna of World Politics and Global Justice, and a former student of De Hoop Scheffer.
