Ymre Schuurmans chairs supervisory committee on judicial monitoring of Big Data
A study has been initiated at the instigation of WODC (Scientific Research and Documentation Centre) on the judicial monitoring of big data applications by government. The study is being conducted by TILT (Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society).
The aim of this study is to determine whether citizens and interest groups have adequate opportunities to appeal to the courts for a review of big data applications in the event of infringements of privacy. This study not only looks at national practice, but also explores whether experiences in other legal systems offer inspiration on how to handle this issue. Ymre Schuurmans, Professor of State and Administrative Law at Leiden University, chairs the comittee that is supervising this study.
