Kick Off Security Studies
On Monday, 4 September the new bachelor programme Security Studies had its official start.
More than 115 students of 21 different nationalities gathered in the Auditorium at the Schouwburgstraat. During the welcome speech of director of education Bibi van den Berg, there was a live stream with the Pieterskerk in Leiden, where rector magnificus Carel Stolker opened the academic year. He welcomed especially the new students of Security Studies and they waved at all those present in the Pieterskerk.
After the welcome speech by Bibi van den Berg, programme director Ruth Prins took the time to get to know the new students, by means of some questions that the students could answer on their smartphone. ‘The Class of 2020’, as Prins addressed the new students, consists of a mixed group. They are students from all over the world with varying ages and experiences in the field of security.
Then it was time for the teachers, tutors and supporting staff to present themselves. The formal part of the afternoon was concluded by writing down the ambitions of the new students. What do the students wish to have achieved three years from now? The ambitions were written down and folded into planes that the students bombarded at their lecturers. In 2020 we will see which goals will have been achieved! Thereafter a group picture was taken and it was time for some drinks. We are looking back on a successful introduction!
