SOLVED: DDoS attack SURF
Leiden University is currently experiencing network problems due to ongoing attacks on the SURF network used by Leiden University. As a result, certain systems may be poorly accessible or unavailable. The ISSC is working hard to resolve the issues as soon as possible however, in doing so, the ISSC is dependent on the actions of SURF. The ISSC is vigilant and we monitor our environment. Surf will provide updates on a regular basis. The next update is expected around noon.
Update: 04:45 PM
Our supplier Surf reports that the disruption has been resolved and all services are available again.
Update 02:00 PM
The situation is currently unchanged from the previous reporting.
Another update will follow later in the afternoon.
Update 11:40 AM
Investigation shows that it is a different DDoS attack than yesterday, but with once again a huge volume of traffic. The attack is much larger than the ‘regular’ DDoS attacks our network faces and turns down on a daily basis. The traffic is at a point in our network where filtering is not (properly) possible. Meanwhile, all institutions on our network are experiencing slow internet connections or have no connection.
We are exploring various measures to repel the attack. This will take some time.
We are working hard to find a solution. We apologise for the inconvenience.
