The contributions are made by researchers who, from a variety of disciplines within the law, deal with issues concerning the environment and climate, decent work, human rights, sustainable business and investment, and the role that the law can and should play in these areas. The main line running through this book is the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals - SDGs - a set of 17 development goals spanning five dimensions: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership. The various development goals are sometimes at odds with each other, although this tension is at the same time the strength of the SDGs. Sustainable development can only be achieved by balancing ecological, economic and social interests.
