Become a mentor for first year students, sign up before 12 April

Do you want to guide future first year students feel at home at International Studies? We are looking for new student mentors (2022-2023)!

What is the mentor programme?

The BA International Studies has a specifically designed mentor programme for 1st year students in order to welcome them properly and to guide them through their first year of university in The Hague.

What is a student mentor?

A student mentor is a coming 2nd or 3rd year student who is capable of guiding our new students. As a student mentor you will commit to the following:

  1. Attend the workshop in June on being a student mentor in an intercultural context. 
  2. Attend a student mentor training session in the last week of August 2022;
  3. Guide your mentor group of 1st year students during the Introduction Days – Tuesday 30 August (09:00- after dinner) & Wednesday 31 August 09.00 – 14.00;
  4. After Introduction Days: keeping track of 1st year students;
  5. Plan and attend 4 meetings with your mentor group in the first semester and 2 meetings in the second semester (topics discussed are among others study skills, exams, area/language choice, etc.);
  6. Host several informal group sessions yourself;
  7. Write a short evaluation-report;
  8. Join one peer intervision session in the first semester.

We are looking for:

  • Motivated students;
  • Current 1st or 2nd year students;
  • On campus in the 1st and 2nd semester
  • You should have earned at least 20 EC as a current 1st year student or 80 EC as a 2nd year student.
  • You should have passed the Academic Reading & Writing course.

  1. Why do you want to be a student mentor?
  2. What makes you a good student mentor?
  3. How will you make sure that students are guided properly?

The deadline for applying is Tuesday April 12. We will have interview rounds on campus in the week of 25-29 April.
