Politics and Aesthetics
Politics and Aesthetics is one of the six research themes of the LUCAS Modern and Contemporary cluster.
Technological and societal changes both challenge and shape or transform the cultural and political conditions of our existence, giving rise to new political ecologies, subjectivities, and vulnerabilities, as well as novel forms of resilience, resistance, disruption, and refusal. Research under this theme aims at furthering the understanding of the above processes and the manifold responses to them. Central to this theme is the study of the aesthetic and affective structures and dynamics of cultural, political, and legal phenomena and their implications within the everyday lives and lived environments, as well as the complex correspondences between these structures and relations of power, normativity, responsibility, and justice.
