Abstract

Younger and less experienced scholars perform more technical and specialized tasks than senior researchers in modern biomedical research. Similarly, bibliometric data shows that less experienced researchers are more likely to author more technical review genres such as systematic reviews, and are more likely to cite the latest reporting standards and guidelines (i.e. PRISMA).

In this talk I will present bibliometric analyses that include the academic age, review genre, and PRISMA citation by field, journal and authorship position. Who writes what kind of review? Which (biomedical) fields have made knowledge synthesis a task for early career researchers? Who is responsible for compliance with standards? Based on the results presented, I invite participants to discuss the relationship between standardization, stringency and seniority in the biomedical sciences.

Note: the presentation is based on an extension of a previous analysis which can be accessed via https://doi.org/10.55835/6441b6d076bb0bb2c9ff4c15.
