On Thursday the 26th of September at 4 p.m., we are excited to have Emily Balskus from Harvard University visit us for the first LED3 Lecture of the new academic year. Prof. Balskus’ lab works at the forefront of discovering, understanding and manipulating microbial metabolism pathways in order to better understand microbial natural product production. For this purpose, her lab integrates technologies of microbiology and organic chemistry. Next to many other contributions to the field, her work on the mutagenic natural product colibactin that is produced by bacteria in the digestive tract and can lead to human cancers, truly stands out.

If you would like to meet Emily during the day, please contact Stephan Hacker to book a slot. There will also be an opportunity to meet Emily informally over some drinks after the talk.
