Who is this workshop for?
The workshop is geared to facilitate a dialogue between the multiple stakeholders involved in post-consumer textile flow (e.g., fashion companies, collectors, recyclers, second-hand shopkeepers, public administrators, researchers, knowledge foundations, and civil society organisations) and identify critical gaps in the coordination among multiple agents, towards governance solutions.
What is the problem that motivates this workshop?
Although smaller in size and location compared to other European countries, The Netherlands still plays a role in exporting tonnes of textile waste to other European countries, but Asia and Africa mainly. Within the Flaws in the Flow project, we are going to offer a workshop to identify the systemic issues in the post-consumer garment value chain combining the academic and practitioners' knowledge.
Why join the workshop 'Flaws in the Flow'?
If you are concerned and working on reducing the amount of textile waste produced in the Netherlands, and exported abroad, this workshop is an opportunity for you to:
- Learn about the state of the art of EU strategies and data availability on post-consumer textile governance;
- Share your knowledge and expertise on this issue, contributing to the debate to steering policy and research work on the topic;
- Join a network of academic and non-academic organizations aimed at lobbying and working on textile waste reduction at the European level;
- Gain information about post-consumer textile waste and the role of the Netherlands in post-consumer textile export from legal, institutional, economic, societal and cultural perspectives;
- Share your knowledge and expertise on this issue, during the workshop interactive sessions and and through informal conversations;
- Join a network of academic and non-academic organizations aimed at lobbying and working on textile waste reduction.
What do we hope to get out of this workshop?
The 'Flaws in the Flow' workshop has three main objectives:
- To take stock of existing knowledge on post-consumer textile governance and identify the gaps requiring future research needs;
- To design a collaborative agenda to work towards better-coordinated scenarios of post-consumer textile governance;
- To identify opportunities for collaboration to put such an agenda into practice.
