Since the Middle Ages, the Basques have been involved in deep-sea fishing in the North Atlantic. The first known experiences along the British coasts soon spread to North America and then to Greenland. The aim of this talk is to provide a broad overview of this subject, setting the scene, looking at its material features and exploring its links with wider global processes.
