Did you obtain your PhD during the COVID-19 pandemic, between March 2020 and April 2022? This period was not the most fun time to be a candidate, let alone to finish your PhD without a traditional celebration. In that case, you probably also missed out on the wonderful Leiden tradition of immortalising your name in the Sweat Room.
We would like to make this up to you on Friday 12 January.
Opportunity to sign your name
In May and June this year we invited MA graduates to come back to Leiden to sign their name in the Sweat Room. The event was a great success and now it is time for our PhD alumni. You can choose to visit the entire event or just a part of it.
Programme

| 15.30 - 18.30h | Sweat Room and reception with drinks |
If you choose to attend the whole programme, you are welcome between 14.30 and 15.00 o'clock for a cup of coffee/tea. At 15.00 o'clock the Rector Magnificus will give a speech for all the PhD alumni in the Great Auditorium. Afterwards there will be a reception. During the reception you can take the winding staircase up to the Sweat Room to immortalize your name on the wall. There is a photographer to capture this memorable moment. In this way we hope to give you a fitting celebration of your time at Leiden University.
Choose your time slot
To make sure everything runs smoothly, you can choose between two options. You can indicate this on the registration form.
Friday 12 January
- Option 1: join for the entire programme, including coffee/tea at arrival, the speech by the Rector, a Sweat Room visit + reception
- Option 2: join the reception between 17.00 and 18.30 o'clock, visit the Sweat Room
You may bring one guest with you (please indicate this on page 2 of the registration form). There is a maximum number of visitors per time slot, so be sure to sign up quickly. Spots will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis!
