International Criminal Law (Advanced LL.M.)

Career preparation

This programme will provide you with the knowledge and skills to practice international criminal law in an increasingly complex global society.

Our Advanced LLM is designed for students who wish to secure a fulfilling career in public international law. The programme has a well-established reputation and gives students the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in a competitive employment market. During the programme, students receive a world-class education in public international law but also have a range of opportunities to develop their professional skills through activities such as moot courts, clinical programmes and workshops. And many students take advantage of our unique location in The Hague to complete internships at international organisations, courts and tribunals, multinational law firms or NGOs.

Interaction with professional field

A number of the programme’s instructors or guest lecturers either have been or are still actively involved in practicing international law. This gives students the opportunity to interact with them, learn about their work as well as the latest developments in the field.

Career services

Every year a special Career Week is organised for all Advanced LLM students and includes various workshops, presentations and trainings. Bespoke public international law career information sessions are also held for our students to provide them with an insight into the wide range of careers in this field and help them grow their network.

Valuable springboard

All in all, this Advanced LLM offers a valuable springboard from which to begin your career in public international law. The two programme specialisations—in International Criminal Law or Peace, Justice and Development—allow students to enhance their profile yet further by acquiring knowledge, skills and access to professional networks in specific areas of international law that interest them.
