Connect theory and practice of teaching through the application of your academic knowledge about mathematics to issues of classroom practice.
Programme outline
The entire MSc programme in combination with the Education specialisation consists of two components:
- Mathematics component (60 EC)
- Education (60 EC)
The Mathematics component of the specialisation comprises a research project of 40 EC in one of the research groups of the Leiden Mathematical Institute, including a master’s thesis and an oral presentation, and 20 EC of courses to be selected in correspondence with the research topic. Some of these courses may be taken from the national Mastermath programme.
The Education component of the specialisation is offered by the Leiden Graduate School of Education (ICLON) and includes courses on didactics and adolescent psychology and an educational research project and school practice. In addition, you can also participate in the World Teachers Programme to prepare for bilingual and international teaching.

The Mathematics master offers you a lot of options to create your own programme. There is also the possibility to follow an internship abroad at another university or company or to follow courses abroad.
