Three-month research project

The master's specialisation in Global Ethnography provides you with the possibility to develop your own individual research project and conduct ethnographic research on a topic you are truly passionate about. The research of our Leiden staff is conducted all over the world and stimulates you in preparing and realizing your own three months ethnographic fieldwork, examining how large issues manifest themselves on a local level. You can conduct your research project through our extensive partnerships at the Ghana Field School, or you can opt for joining our Field School in the Netherlands. Alternatively, you can avail of the research networks our Leiden staff elsewhere in the world.

Study at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences

The Institute of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology is housed in the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences within walking distance of the Leiden Central railway station. If you travel by train, a 5-minute walk will take you from the back of the station to the Pieter de la Court building. Here you'll find:

• Lecture halls;
• Editing rooms;
• A library with 70,000 printed specialist publications and extensive digital collections;
• About 300 computer workstations for students located in several places in the building;
