Student life

The Hague is a real student city and offers everything you’ll need to turn your time as a student into the time of your life.

The Hague student city

As the seat of the Dutch government, international courts, embassies and multinational organisations and businesses, The Hague is a city known around the world as the city of peace and justice. Are you a city person? Or more inclined to seek out nature? Why choose between city and beach, when The Hague offers both? The Hague has eleven kilometres of sandy beach within cycling distance of the historic city centre. The many student associations and study associations contribute to a vibrant student life.

"The Hague is a perfect combination of a lively city as well as a quiet city. It’s open and vibrant, and I really enjoy the fact that it’s international-oriented, both the University and the working life there. Wijnhaven is a good campus with a great location: it’s near the city center and the train station."

"The events organised by the study association, BASIS, are also a great place to meet people. Since I don't live in The Hague, I don't often attend evening activities, but recently I did go on an interesting excursion to the Estonian embassy in The Hague."

HOP introduction week

The Hague Orientation Programme (HOP) is the official introduction week for new students studying in The Hague. During a five-day, festive and varied programme you will be able to become acquainted with the city and the student life that await you. The HOP week is the perfect way to kick off your student life in the Hague, meeting new people, making friends, and getting acquainted with the study programme, the University, and the many student associations.

BASIS (Bachelor Association for Students of International Studies) is the study association for you! Each year BASIS organises a wide range of activities that include lectures, seminars, field trips and excursions related to your International Studies coursework.
