About the Programme

The dynamic between research and professional practice is a theme that runs through the programme at the Dual PhD Centre and represents all academic disciplines at the University. The programme has been especially developed for our Dual PhD candidates, who come from different backgrounds and professions. As a Dual PhD candidate, you work with an academic supervisor on a thesis that is relevant to your profession.

Before the start of a Dual PhD programme, the candidate together with staff of the Centre establish a research question, taking into consideration how investigating that question is realistically achievable, the practical applications and how to plan funds for the research. The Dual PhD programme begins with a pre-PhD year in which the candidate develops and secures approval for the research proposal and works on developing scientific skills. Most Dual PhD candidates complete their PhD within an average of five years, including the pre-PhD year. Once you have finished the pre-PhD year, you will continue to receive the supervision that you need to complete your PhD.
