Leiden Socio Legal Series

Starting this academic year (2016-2017) Maartje van der Woude, Professor of Sociology of Law at the Van Vollenhoven Institute will organize the Leiden Socio-Legal Series (LSLS).

Starting in October, during this monthly speaker series, renowned (inter)national socio-legal scholars will give an hour long lecture about their own social-legal research in which specific attention is paid to the use of socio-legal research methods. During the academic year 2016-2017 several speakers from different countries, will be addressing 3 central questions while each focusing on different areas of the law (criminal law, migration law, torts law, etc.).

The questions to be addressed are:
(1)    what does socio-legal research mean to you (theoretically and/or methodologically speaking),
(2)    why can the study of the law benefit from such a perspective and how did it help you in your own research?  and – to make it a realistic series and not just a picture perfect representation –
(3)    what were the challenges of doing socio-legal research?

The LSLS is part of the multidisciplinary research profile area Interaction between Legal Systems.
