Cooperation on education with China stimulates innovation and brings a different perspective and new content to classrooms.
Moreover, it contributes to Leiden faculty and students' understanding of developments in China and, vice versa, to Chinese faculty and students' understanding of developments in the Netherlands and Europe.
Exchange and financial support
Leiden University therefore, encourages exchanges of staff and students and is investing in the development of double degree and joint educational programs. Currently around 200 Chinese BA and MA students are following courses at Leiden University and a growing number of Leiden University students find their way to China.
Leiden staff members with an interest in developing staff exchanges with a Chinese partner university can apply for financial support provided in the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme. Read: On the road with an International Credit Mobility grant
Examples of Visiting or Honorary Professorships
Visiting professors build bridges and help foster an international research network. Between Leiden and China, these are some of the noteworthy visiting professors
- Prof. M. (Thijs) van Kolfschoten is visiting professor at Shandong University
- Prof. H.X. (Hai) Lin from Shandong University and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences is visiting professor at Leiden University.
- Prof. D.D. (Douwe) Breimer is honorary professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University.
- Prof. J. (Jan) van der Greef is Visiting Professor at Jiaotong University in Shanghai and at Hangzhou Medical University.
- Prof. N.H. (Niels) Chavannes is visiting professor at the Respiratory Research Institute from the Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University Shanghai.
- Prof. P. (Peter) ten Dijke is Chang Jiang Scholar Chair Professor at the Life Sciences Institute of Zhejiang University.
In the picture: China Region Group and the international classroom
Chair of the China Region Group Prof. Joanne van der Leun (2019-2022) tells about the start of China studies at Leiden University.
