World Archaeology
About the Department
The Department of World Archaeology is a lively pluriform community that explores various theoretical and methodological approaches, applies cutting-edge technologies, creates and maintains international networks across the globe, and unites researchers of many different backgrounds.
The student will recognise that diversity in the many specialisations and electives offered in the English language in both the bachelor and master phase. The researcher will recognise it in the many multi- and interdisciplinary research projects that are being carried-out – some in close cooperation with the Department of Archaeological Sciences, as well as international partners outside Leiden.
Archaeology in a globalising world
Additionally, the Department of World Archaeology closely collaborates with the Department of Archaeological Heritage and Society through many different research and educational projects. Our vision is to carry out applied archaeology in a globalising world in which cultural heritage and the impact of archaeology outside of academia is on the forefront and is increasingly more politically and ideologically loaded. In our education and research, the care for heritage, its diverse stakeholders and their identitary values plays an important role.
The Department offers students the ideal environment to prepare themselves for an international scientific career.
