About the Department
Our staff has a strong international reputation and a broad research network, facilitating international student exchange. They lead projects world-wide, from France to the Caribbean, and from Ethiopia to Russia.
State of the art laboratories
The department has five state of the art laboratories: the Laboratories for Archaeozoological Studies and Archaeobotanical Studies, the Laboratory for Human Osteology and Funerary Archaeology, the Laboratory for Material Culture Studies (including Ceramic Technology and Microwear and Residue Analysis) and the Computer Laboratories, in which Big Data analysis is quintessential.
Collaborative ties
The department has formal collaborative ties with the Leiden Faculty of Sciences and the Technical University Delft, giving students access to a wide range of analytical facilities. Our educational programs are strongly research driven with students participating in the research programmes of the staff.
