The European Conference of Iranian Studies (ECIS) is one of Europe’s largest conferences in Iranian Studies. It is held every four years and organized by the Societas Iranologica Europaea (SIE). The tenth edition of the conference, ECIS 10, will be hosted by Leiden University in the Netherlands.

The SIE General Assembly will take place on Wednesday afternoon, 23 August 2023 in the Main Academy Building.
The conference dinner will be on Wednesday, 23 August 2023 at Restaurant Scheltema in Leiden.
ECIS 10 will cover a wide range of topics related to Iranian Studies including philology, linguistics, literature, history, religious and cultural studies, art and architecture, archaeology, philosophy and anthropology.
Societas Iranologica Europaea
The Societas Iranologica Europaea (SIE) is an international academic society in the field of Iranian Studies with members from European and non-European countries. The SIE was founded in 1983 in Rome with the support of the European Science Foundation and the Istituto Italiano per il Medio ed Estremo Oriente (later Istituto Italiano per l’Africa e l’Oriente) on the occasion of the First European Colloquium of Iranology.
The aim of the Societas Iranologica Europaea is to promote, develop and support Ancient, Middle and Modern Iranian Studies in all subject areas of the field, including philology, linguistics, literature, history, religions, art, archaeology, philosophy, ethnology, geography, human sciences, jurisprudence.
SIE Membership
For application please fill in the application form and send this form by e-mail or mail to the Secretary together with a curriculum vitae. Two members of the SIE must endorse the application either by signing the application form or by sending an e-mail to the Secretary at: cv223@cam.ac.uk
The applicants have to pay the fee of the SIE after their applications have been officially accepted.

Award for a European PhD Thesis in Iranian Studies
At the occasion of ECIS 10, the Societas Iranologica Europaea will announce the awardees of the Fifth Round of the Award for a European PhD Thesis in Iranian Studies. With this award the Societas Iranologica Europaea recognizes outstanding theses in any field of Iranian Studies defended at European universities between 1 January 2019 and 31 December 2022. The award is given every four years. All submissions should be done via the homepage of the Societas Iranologica Europaea.
Submission deadline: 1 January 2023.
