Summer School Science Communication

Are you a researcher eager to share your work with a broader audience? Do you want to develop your science communication skills and learn how to engage effectively with society? Then join our Summer School in Science Communication in Leiden! Jointly organized by the Faculties of Science and Social Sciences, this summer school is open to researchers at all career stages, from PhD candidates to senior researchers, who are relatively new to science communication. We welcome participants from all academic disciplines, including social sciences, natural sciences, and humanities.

What to expect?

Over the span of one week you will:
•    Explore key theoretical insights in science communication
•    Develop and practice communication skills tailored to different audiences
•    Learn from guest speakers with experience in the field
•    Work in teams to create your own science communication product
•    Participate in workshops and interactive discussions

 

Programme

  • Introduction to science communication and an inspirational insight into a wide variety of SciCom products.
  • Lectures on communication theory, target audiences, how to include outreach in your academic career, most relevant literature and best practices.
  • Presentations by guest speakers about their experiences with different types of science communication.
  • Workshops on science journalism and science visualisation.
  • Guidance on development of a science communication product, which you will work on throughout the week in groups and which will be finished with a festive presentation at the end.
