De belangrijkste onderzoeksinteresses van Madalina Busuioc bevinden zich op het gebied van multi-level(risico)regulering, met een bijzondere nadruk op het bestuderen van bureaucratische instanties die zowel op nationaal als op EU-niveau opereren, publieke verantwoording, onafhankelijkheid van agentschappen en de institutionele vormgeving en praktijken van multi-levelsamenwerking. Haar meest recente werk gaat over de reputationele kijk op studie en theoretiseren over de gevolgen daarvan voor ons begrip van publieke verantwoording en theorieën over politieke controle.
