Professional experience

Yuanyuan Mao is PhD Candidate of Environmental Biology at the Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML) at Leiden University. She did her Master of Human Geography from the College of Geography Science at South China Normal University in 2022. During the master study, Yuanyuan specialized in ecosystem services and urbanization. Specifically, she explored the spatial-temporal evolution of urbanization and ecological environment, aiming to simulate the trend of the coupling relationship between two under 5 different scenarios with SD (System Dynamics) Model.

Research topic

Yuanyuan’s research revolves around the urban nature and the functions and benefits it provides to people. Her PhD research project aims to study the relationship between urban nature and human health, especially mental health. And she has a keen interest in developing and applying spatial models and tools about the ecosystem services and urban health.
