As an IT professional with over 10 years of experience. Her areas of expertise include Software engineering, Data Science, Machine Learning /Deep Learning, and Quantum Computing. She has held various roles from software engineer to AI researcher and works on quantum computing applications. At IBM Research Africa, she researches and develops novel machine learning and quantum computing applications in collaboration with research scientists and institutes to meet South Africa’s grand challenges. Recent work includes benchmarking the effect of noise on variational quantum algorithms for quantum chemistry and the development of a Deep Learning approach to classify cancer pathology reports. In her additional role as a Qiskit advocate, she participates as a mentor at qiskit hackathons and challenges. As an IBM Quantum ambassador, she represents IBM Quantum at Quantum Conferences and Tech events in Africa, to promote quantum computing and its relevance to the African continent.

Waheeda holds an MSc in Data Science and Quantum Informatics from the University of Edinburgh and a BSc in Computer Science and Information Technology from the University of Kwazulu Natal.
