My main research interest involves genomic conflict. For my postdoc at Leiden University, I will focus on the evolution of the balanced lethal system in newts, trying to determine the genomic architecture of this phenomenon.
Research
I am interested in genomic conflict and selfish genetic elements. During my PhD, I was working on the mechanisms of adaptation to a new transposable element, P-element, in Drosophila simulans, which is a sister species of the genetic model. For my first postdoc, I continued working with transposable elements and other repeats in the genome, looking at their role in the sex chromosome turnover in Atlantic salmon. During my postdoc at Leiden University I will be working on determining the genomic architecture of the balanced lethal system in newts.
Brief biography
I studied biotechnology at the University of Warsaw, Poland. After that I pursued my PhD at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna and University of Liverpool, UK. Before starting my postdoc at IBL, I conducted postdoctoral research at Norwegian University of Life Sciences.
