Valerie de Koeijer is Assistant Professor of Conflict Resolution and International Organisation at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs of Leiden University. Her research is on responses to disaster and climate change, with a focus on conflict and cooperation in the relationships between various actors working on these responses, such as governments and international organisations. She is also interested in qualitative methods and research ethics, especially in challenging contexts.

Valerie de Koeijer is Assistant Professor of Conflict Resolution and International Organisation at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs of Leiden University. She is also interested in qualitative methods and research ethics, especially in challenging contexts.
De Koeijer’s current book project studies the impact of the relationship between governments and international organizations on the effectiveness of assistance after disaster. In the book she focuses on the hurricane Maria response in Dominica. Her previous research includes work on a geoculturally pluralistic international relations discipline, and the everyday challenges of international humanitarian workers in conflict-affected settings. She holds a BA from University College Roosevelt in Middelburg, an MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and an MA and PhD in Political Science from Johns Hopkins University
